I went in Tesco and asked for a lottery scratch card and the girl brought me some Hamlet cigars! Doh!

Not quite an answer, but I once asked an assistant in M&S if there were any coffee mugs (it was a big branch with homeware)
She looked blank - I repeated several times - she said she had no idea what I meant.
I do not have a strange accent or speak indistinctly and it wasn't noisy - I wonder if there was a lot of background noise in your Tesco at the time?

Ordered Lamb, mushroom and beansprouts in my local Chinese take-away.

I wasn't given something different but once asked an assistant in a small shop, "do you keep stationery",She replied"only when I standing still". I thought that was a good answer.
