Buying Traveller Cheques Abroad

Is it possible to buy, (eg) US Dollar or (eg) UK Sterling traveller cheques while abroad, from a Bank or Foreign Exchange? Would I be able to pay in the local currency or with a UK credit card? Does it depend on how strong the local currency is?

I would say you probably can - US$ anyway. �Sterling might be less widely available.

You could certainly pay in local currency - using a credit card if allowed would be a cash advance and involve extra fees and immediate interest.

Why you would want to if you've got a credit card is another matter.

you would be better off buying them over here with cash. You would not know the rate they are charging you or commission. Where as here you are dealing in sterling so you know what you are getting for your money. If you are travelling to more than one country you can buy sterling travellers cheques in advance and cash them in most places
