i know a married couple the husband is about 74
he is just able to walk he has a mobility scooter
the wife told me she paid a 1000 pounds for
i fhought in his position he would have got a free one
from the nhs

No, my Mum and step father had nothing but a pension and the house, but had to find the money to pay for one. Most NHS would have done was provide a wheel chair along with some other mobility aids, which had to be returned when he died.

Even DLA registered contribute from the allowance if they want one.

As others have said, there is no such thing as an NHS supplied mobility Scooter.

I seem to recall researching this when I wanted one and what I saw said something along the lines of 'if you have savings of £3. or less you could apply for one'. I have certainly had to buy my own, but its amazing just how many people think you get them for free and they are certainly not cheap!

i think the NHS would provide the bare minimum - ie a basic wheelchair.

mobility scooters would be considered kind of a luxury rather than a necessity in nhs terms

julia mag, I don't know where you saw this but its not true. Some areas of the country offer a voucher scheme where you are given a voucher to spend on a more expensive wheelchair than the NHS supply but you have to out the rest and i think its only for people who cannot walk at all, ie need a wheelchair all the time and not just when they got out.

working people can get one as part of the access to work scheme BTW £1000 was very expensive a basic one for general purposes should be lot less than that
