Edison screw vs. Bayonet cap in light fittings.

I've fitted a few light fittings of different types and one common factor seems to be that they all used ES or SES bulbs in them. Why are these used over bayonet as bayonet seem seem to be cheaper and more plentiful?

With LED lamps only getting replaced once every 3 years it no longer makes sense for manufacturers to set up entire production lines for such a small market.
Expect to see bayonet fittings vanish completely in the next 7-10 years.
