Gromit, freezing whist a good political soundbite won't work for many reasons as you know, regardless of whether you think it is Communism.
It needs greater transparent between the generators and suppliers (especially when the same company is involved) and then more competition introduced. Both measures need to be introduced though to ensure a level playing field. The generators should then be very closely regulated to ensure not insider dealing and cartels take place.

Of course, what many liberal lefties are ignoring is the fact that the so called 'Green taxes' are clobbering each household more and more.
This form of self flagellation has to stop. It is a futile exercise whilst Asian (mainly India and china) countries pile out crap into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuel.

There was much talk last week about all the energy companies going out of business because an elected government might force them to freeze their prices for a few months. So any price increases they announce now should be greeted with a certain amount of scepticism.
These energy companies are little short of leeches, bleeding the British public dry, in order to make huge profits. If Labour had any balls, they would have a policy in place to take basic amenities back into public ownership, just like has been done with Railtrack. I am convinced that it would be popular, just like their plan to freeze prices is being seen. Labour has leapt ahead in the Polls since last week.

Labour has leapt ahead; all that proves is how thick the electorate is. It is simply sound biting - as all parties do at a conference.
Proposing to cap for 2 years is so naive, the energy companies will soon get round it. Big rise before and a big rise after will be the first, followed by not investing in the infrastructure that is so badly needed.
As for taking it back, I would agree. However there is no money in the pot as Labour spent it on right-on liberal experiments and it woudl have to be bought at market price. Railtrack was failing, this is not.
