How do I get rid of carpet weevils?

Can anyone tell me of a 'safe' way of getting rid of carpet weevils please. I have been told that the carpet will have to be sprayed with chemicals which may be harmful to pets and children. I want to try and avoid this. I have thought about trying ant or flea powder.

I have same problem,but cant find out where they are coming from?? only remedy i have found is to vacumn round the edge with narrow nozzle every other day.may have deterred the little blighters.not seen any this week.hope this any good to you.
