Bearing in mind that both my dog and cat are white, and shed fur constantly. I am also the throw queen,so there will be no shortage of cover ups...lol.
I've also read loads of reviews for what I want, and they are 95% positive re ease of washing.

Just had a thought, if they're cotton then you could always dye them to another colour if the white's too much to care for. When my old sofa went to heaven I kept the poufee and dyed it from sage green to purple, it came out fantastic.

I love all the comments...no ones sitting on the fence here.
...I already have a loose covered sofa, and have never seen taking the covers off / putting them back on to be a problem. But-its green so does not show dirt so much. It DOES show all the pet hair though. :-(
As for dying the white if it turns out to be a problem-that is already on the '+' side of the list.
What started me thinking this way was this-from IKEA.

Its so damn cheap in the white- add another £200 if a colour is wanted. My budget is really tight at the moment, so even if the white is temporary,I can get new covers not too far in the future. Also-ikea sofas come with a TEN year guarantee.
My other choice is sofasofa...

But some reviews are quite negative.
I like the Ikea one and their stuff always does what it should.
The ikea one looks more comfy....
Sounds like it's worth a go if you like them. I wouldn't personally, because i wouldn't want white- clean or not. I have cream leather with is very easy to keep clean, in spite of kids, dogs and cats.
'you have to take your curtains down a couple of times a year and wash them'....
Who on earth, apart from rowan, does that? Crikey.
My curtains don't ever get washed, they may get dry cleaned a couple of times a decade if they're lucky.
I bought an ivory colored sofa a few years ago .......... big mistake.

Was it loose covered,Traci? I'd never consider it if it was fixed covered. Nor would I consider leather. Not a fan of it.
My BIL has a white sofa and a white carpet in his living room,
It freaks me out, i'm terrified of getting any dirty marks on either of them,
He does most of his entertaining in the kitchen, but he thinks its hilarious when I remove both my boots and my black socks before i walk through the living room.
Ooo noo never .....if I lived alone then perhaps...but it's a struggle keeping my beige one clean....as for my cream rugs..... Well...even the large shoe basket in the hall doesn't give a big enough reminder to...TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF !!!!
Not in a month of Sundays..... if you have throws (as we do) just use them, not white covers.

Ethandron, thank goodness - my curtains are related to yours.
We live with five cats and have darkish green sofa covers - you're right when you say they really show the cat hair (three black, one tabby, one marmalade)
We get round that by using lint removers swept over the covers daily or else vacuumed every day. It's now part of the daily cleaning regime, and isn't a problem, you get used to it. As for white covers, not with my family, I know for a fact that there would be something spilt on it within minutes of a white sofa being delivered here.
