When straightening your hair should you straighten the roots?

Only if you can get at them.

Careful though cos it might end up a bit kinky.  If the ABE robot stars out kinky, it's a word beginning with K and ending with "inky" and I meant it in the literal, not the sexual way!

 

It also entirely depends what your using the straightners for.  I use mine for putting a slight curve/bit of shape into my hair as it naturally does a rubbish flick that looks like an accident.  For me I don't NEED to do the roots, but I get at them anyway for volume. 

 

You can always wash it out again - unlike hair dye! So have fun! :-)

Be careful not to burn your scalp. I've done it before and it hurts ALOT. But yes, if you can get at them.

no, your roots wont be very curly anyway unless you have afro hair or something, and it will make it very flat at the top

I beg to differ chazza - I use the straightners to get VOLUME at the top.  If you use them in a certain way it INCREASES volume up there.  It would only flatten the hair if you actually ran an iron over your head or something.  I don't mean to be arguementative, I'm just saying that in my experience, my hair gets more volume if i use the irons from the top - any hairdresser can show you how to do this.  Nirvana has a good point though - don't wanna get burned!!

If you mean chemically straightened then the answer is yes.Also the trick with straightening irons is to take small sections starting from the underneath and working your way up.You need to get as close to the roots as possible if your hair is really curly and spray with something like frizz ease hairspray afterwards to keep out moisture.
