Ipod Touch Screen Is So Dark Can Hardly See It

Hi I have a ipod touch I think it 3rd generation as no camera but cant be sure as cant make out the number on back of ipod to check unless there another way..anyways the screen is so dark I can barely see the icons, ive checked the brightness and it on full ive also turned auto brightness off and still no good..so what do you think I will need a new screen or something else..i believe the screens come with the digitizer on them again not sure, could anyone that knows look for me and send me link to ebay on what I need to fix the problem please..and will say a 2nd gen screen work on 3rd gen ipod etc just incase as im not sure what gen it is....thanks in advance

The screen backlight has probably failed.

so what do I need to fix the backlight is all that part of getting a new screen etc...can you point me into right direction what I need etc if u could send link from ebay as to what part I need that be great thanks
