can't load up old cd rom game
bought an old star trek game the other day called "the final unity" i get as far 'install game' page i click yes then it take me to a problem page where it says..FILES/BUFFERS....Required............Detected .
.........FILES/BUFFERS.....20/20..................40/ 0
IT THEN TELLS ME " TO INCREASE FILES OR BUFFERS MODIFY:-
FILES=X or BUFFERS=X STATEMENTS IN YOUR CONFIG.SYS FILE AND REBOOT.
my Q is how do i do what i'm told.
the game is 12 yrs old and the box says "for ibm pc 486, pentium and most compatibles with CD ROM
i'M USING WINDOW'S XP HOME BY THE WAY

There is a tab named 'compatibility' -
you have option to run it as a Win 95 or Win 98 setup.
There are other options you can try - colour settings etc.
I play around with these until I get my older games to run.
I don't know this game - so I don't know what settings run best.
It usually tells you in the manual or on the box what settings the game should run at.
It's usually successful - but not always.
I had an old laptop with Win98SE installed for just such a situation - sometimes that's the only way I can get older games to play.
