The cult of the magic radiator

Once again it is the time of year when women all over Britain worship The Magic Radiator.

It is too damp outside to dry clothes, so they are brought into the house and festooned on all the available radiators. This would be entirely logical if the radiators were hot ... but it is still warm enough to manage without the CH - so the rads are stone cold.

But women still insist that it's the way to get the washing dry - logically this is what we men call 'botox' - the radiators are actually a big lump of cold water with a huge thermal capacity ... of coldness.

It must be magic then ... perhaps this post should be in R&S

It doesn`t rain over the radiators though!
I can't stand washing on radiators, would drive me mental.
And hanging them helps eliminate the ironing. Maybe it's also a way of telling men to switch the heating on - mine's been on since end of August, apparently I'm a lizard:-)
They are a handy hanging surface regardless of whether they are on or off. :)
Ours have been on for a few weeks now due to the fact I am home all day and I feel cold all the time, mainly because I can't move about much and am unable to generate body heat that way.
I get called a lizard too Prudie! :c)
It's a cheek CD, I prefer to think of myself as a cat :-)
The only rooms in our house where laundry is allowed to dry are the bathrooms where the radiators are independant and dampness can be allowed to escape through windows. We have neighbours whose house is perpetually draped in drying laundry and their daughter has asthma....no surprise. I'm surprised they haven't started growing mushrooms on their sofa.
It's funny how in my house the magic radiators have accompanying magic washing machines and irons. Mr Tilly thinks so, anyway
if it's raining our clothes hang under an awning we put up along one wall for that purpose. If it's cold as well they go on the radiators, which have been on for weeks.

Even if the radiators weren't on, it's drier inside than out for most of the year.
I never ever ever dry washed clothes over radiators. I go to a great deal of trouble NOT to have condensation problems.
they've all got tumble dryers over on mumsnet...
I don't actually use radoators either. I only wash what will fit on my airer.
I have a utility room. I have a tidy-dry in there which I pull out when necessary. Clothes including towels dry over night, so no drying on radiators in my house,
Damp washing will dry perfectly without heat, indoors.....washing on airer,
airer into spare (bed)room, electric fan blowing onto washing, windows wide open and door shut. Dries quite quickly and economically....heating is OFF in said bedroom.
because if there's not much washing it saves cluttering up the spare room with the airer
No drying on radiators in our house - what won't go in the tumble dryer hangs on a horse over the bath.
doesn't the horse make a mess of the bathroom, boxy?
We've got a huge litter tray, sloopy (in some houses it's called "the bath").
;x)
