Nintendo Ds Lite

I have just acquired a Nintendo DS Lite and a DS card containing 100 Classic Books.
I would like to download more books via my Wi-fi computer connection, but it appears that I need a separate DS Wi-fi connector, which seem quite expensive.
What I would like to know is, if I buy one of these connection kits, what else can I use the Wi-fi connection for? for instant can I access my email etc. I would like to stress I am not interested in downloading games.

i wasn't aware that ds lite had much internal memory - it's the cards you insert that hold the details about games and books isn't it?
