Combi only giving hot water when heating is on.

Hi...my Vaillant combi has just started to play up. It will only supply hot water to the taps if the central heating room stat is turned up. If the radiators aren't on I have only cold mains water coming out of the hot taps.
All suggestions gratefully anticipated.

when ours did this we had to get british gas out to fix it cos after 3 days the hot water stopped working completely, and the boiler needed a new part.

ianess, You will need a Corgi engineer to rectify this problem. Possible cause ( amongst many ) is that the domestic hot water sensor requires replacing.

My bro had a valliant boiler which had the same kind of problem so I spoke to 3 different corgi boiler engineers and they all said the same thing, change the boiler as it was the worst thing ever made. So I fitted an Ace High and never had trouble again....

Not a heating engineer, but from what I can recall, they have two pumps - one for the heating and one for the hot water.

Thanx for the answers so far. At the moment it's still just an intermittent fault. I only hope it will last us through what's left of the winter then we'll be able to get it fixed properly. It's at times like this that I wish I'd taken out a maintenance contract. Too late now.
