OK Just got back from my Doctor... he has prescribed me Microgynon Contraceptive Pill...?! I confirmed with him that I am 43 years old, he said this will be fine and will regulate my cycle and the monthly bleed will be less painful. He asked twice if I had bleeds in between periods I confirmed NO. He took my BP all OK, and weighed me 11st 4lb, (5ft 8). Told me to try it for 2 months if no improvement in those months go back to him. I queried why he wasn't prescribing me on the Progesterone only pill at my age, he laughed and reiterated Microgynon will be fine. I will now scare myself by reading all the contra-indications in the leaflet........! Thanks guys x
Thanks. Yes ummmm the last 18 months have been getting heavier, that awful flooding feeling, and cycle has been getting shorter from 28 days down to 22. Hopefully this will help.
I took that Pill - it does regulate the bleeding but I still had had bad pains. An effective medicine is Naproxen 500mg or an alternative is to take Magnesium OK by Wassen (you can buy in Holland and Barratt) along with evening Primrose. I find either of them much more effective than the Pill (and I'm convinced the Magnesium helps with moods too).
I hope the pill works for you and you soon feel better. I had heavy periods the older I got and it turned out I had fibroids. I was told they would shrink with the onset of the menopause and they did.
Just a funny thing I thought I would mention, when my Doc pulled the BP monitor out and pumped up my arm tight I was feeling a little anxious and could feel my heart start to race slightly......he said "You have white coat hypertention and laughed......" I thought it was a serious disorder or something!! and he told me to calm down and explained what it meant! Then took it again and it was all OK.. Lol. Sorry I will shut up now !
there nothing wrong with a combined pill. POP do not work for everyone - i was prescribed one for heavy periods and i just spotted every day, so came off it as i would rather get it all over with in one monthly 5 day period than deal every day with a smaller amount
