Hi there
My warfarin levels have been quite high for a while now was on 5mg and 4mg alternate days. 2 weeks ago the level was 3.6 they told me to miss a dose and go back to 5 and 4 I did this today I got it checked it was 3.6 again so I have to miss a dose and go to 4mg daily. I cant understand this it has been fine for 5 months with 6 weekly appointments it was always 2.8 nothing in my diet or medication or life has changed. It is freaking me out a bit I mean what if I have a major bleed or a bang to the head or I have a stomach bleed. I have AF now and again and everyone tells me I am at risk of a stroke as I am overweight and have high cholestrol and type 2 diabetes but I am seriously considering coming off it. Has anyone else had warfarin levels at 3.6 it should be between 2 and 3

yes, 3.6 really isn't much bigger than 3
imo you would be a wang to come off it
I really wouldn't recommend you come off it. I have seen INR above that and usually the warfarin is carefully managed. If you're worried about the readings, it might be worth speaking to the nurse for reassurance. Have you had any changes in other medication?
gordie it takes a while for the dosage to settle, my OH takes warfarin every day and attends the clinic regularly, there are times when they alter his dosage, and he's been on it for quite a few years now. He's quite good with his diet, not too much green leafy veg and no offal and he occasionally goes out for a pint or two. Keep on with it, and have a word about your worries the next time you go to the Warfarin clinic..
I used to run a Warfarin clinic by chance OK 1976 but...

stopping for a night and then going down to 4 a day is sensible and rational.

3.6 is not a big deal.

I have seen someone stroke with AF - no two.... please do not stop it or else I wil call you w_ngface.....

I've been on between 6 and 8 mgs a day for 15 months, I've never heard of or been asked to attend a Warfarin clinic. Sould I ask my doctor about this? I go for a blood test, doc's send me a letter with results and what dose to take that's it....
masma, that's all that happens at a Warfarin clinic, blood test, then update on dosage. Must be better to be able to get it done at GP, rather than have to travel.

Gordie, this is no big deal, all manner of things can cause your level to go up, you may have mistakenly taken too high a dose, you may have had a few beers too many. Either way, do what they tell you and it'll be fine again next time.
Thank you SeaJayPea.
I love these posts where someone says I am on Warf 7 and never had a blood test for a year or so.
and someone asks whaaaaaaat?
and the answer comes - oh that doesnt count the blood test I have every four weeks....
