To listen to the news you could be forgiven for expecting the 4 horseman of the apocolypse! OK it's going to get a bit windy! Why are we so bad at weather in UK!

I've just checked out the forecast for tomorrow and it's predicting winds of 17 mph.

Apart from weighing trampoline down with sand bags I'm not doing anything else, just going about my business (of a Sunday drink) as usual.

They can keep up the hype as far as I'm concerned, Mr Cake is in the garden tidying up anything that may blow away or cause damage!

were you in the south of the UK in 1987 when the great storm struck, TTT? It was very much more than "a bit windy" - and this looks worse. My parents lived in Brighton at the time and the devastation had to be seen to be believed.

I`ve been in a few hurricanes, earthquakes, tyhoons etc in my time so I`m not very excited about it. A friend has been around with his chainsaw cutting back next door`s trees that were overhanging my garden. It`s all stacked at the end of my garden so with a bit of luck, it`s all blow away and I won`t have to take it to the dump - result.

I think it's because of the 1987 storm boxtops that they are giving all these dire warnings. Do you remember Michael Fish saying that a woman had rung in saying there was a hurricane on the way - but that there wasn't! He never lived it down. I was living in London at the time, and I must say it was a bit scary (I don't suppose it helped that I lived at the top of a hill, in the top flat!). I was awake half the night - the cat and I huddled together in the hallway. I had to walk to work the next day and had to climb over falled trees.

Yes boxtops I was in the south that night and it was bad, I had roof tiles blown off and my shed flattenned. Last night a 3ft branch fell off a tree in my garden. I'd say 1987 was much much worse.

Thankfully this time it's mostly slanted over our corner, and is now heading Essex-wards. Lovely morning now - all I can see in other people's gardens is a fence down and a shed roof covering off.

the lower part of my jeans got slightly damp when a wet carrier bag touched me when it was whipped into a frenzy by the ferocious winds. Dont worry I am ok though.

The wind last night/this morning has been but a gentle breeze compared to 1987 and it's no worse than several days we get every autumn. There has been far too much media hype about it.
