I see that the Great British Bake Off will move to BBC1 next year.... I remember after last years series there was talk of it, and Paul Hollywood commented that it would ruin the show if it moved to BBC1. What difference is there, people will still watch it?

BBC2 was always considered more high brow that BBC1, middle class BBC2 peasant class BBC1.
on BBC1 they will have to dance while cooking.
As long as the format stays the same I don't think it'll make much difference what channel it's on.
well, to put that more seriously, BBC1 programmes get bigger viewing figures as many people seem to consider watching only BBC1, ITV1 (if such a thing still exists) and Sky. But the downside is that to keep a place on BBC1 you have to attract a much bigger audience. Presumably they've calculated that it has wide enough appeal to shift from BBC2, but they may come under pressure to take it downmarket, eg cooking fish and chips and mushy peas.
Simply moving a programme shouldn't make any difference but changing its target audience might well do so. The move from BBC2 to BBC1 is often seen as 'dumbing down' a programme (or of putting a programme's popularity at risk if the programme isn't 'dumbed down' for a wider audience). Most programmes that make the jump from BBC2 to BBC1 (such as QI) soon go back again, as viewers often seem to feel that the programme is simply 'out of place'.
Never watch it anyway

Neither do I, Daisy. (My butler knows that the TV should only ever be tuned to BBC4).

They tend to change the format and/or the presenters and try to jazz it up a bit.

Maybe Sharon Osbourne and Bruno Tonioli could be judges, heaven forbid!
won't make any difference to me, I don't watch it, but they think it will bring it to a wider audience. Especially if it's on straight before Strictly or other mind-numbing progs like that.
when BBC2 launched it was shown only on the new "625" lines service, which meant that the plebs who only had 405 tellies couldn't see it. that elitist feel persists even today.
