LNM, your comment about the lack of trees on Orkney reminded me of a trip to Aruba where I encountered the divi divi tree. Its foliage always points to the SW because of the prevailing Trade Winds. See the photo in this article.

I heard once that all the trees from Orkney and Shetland can be found in Norway
