.... its an alternative to the dreaded injection and is virtually pain-free ..... and it doesn't leave half your face numb.
I went to the dentist today for a filling and was asked if I wanted the traditional injection or "the wand".
Anyway, I'd never heard of it, but after everything was explained, I decided to go for the wand.
It was completely pain-free .... never felt a thing. It only numbs the tooth so you don't get half your face feeling numb.
Apparently, the pain of the injection is caused not by the needle piercing the skin, but by the anaesthetic entering too quickly.

It's all explained here:

Anyway, I left the dentist after my filling, pain free and no numb face.
If you don't like needles, I highly recommend this .........

... trust me, it's real - I've just had it :)
there'll be many glad to try this
If my dentist offered me the Wand, I'd just blush.

But I'm guessing this is not the Hitachi version.

Injections don't bother me, it's the numbness of the face afterwards that's a pain in the ass.
It's been over 2 and a half hours since my filling and all I've felt is a VERY slight aching of the actual tooth, after the numbness in the tooth has worn off. I suppose this is to be expected, as the tooth has been drilled out and filled etc.
I can't recommend this enough and if and when I need more dental treatment, I'll be asking for the wand again.
I guess its not available on the NHS - LOL, they love inflicting pain!
they love inflicting pain!

Yes Ann they certainly do, usually in my wallet !.
Ugh, I so wish you hadn't posted this. I'm having a filling on Thursday... by injection. Five years later than it should have been done :-/
was it expensive?

I'm on Denplan, so it didn't cost me anything extra :)
Many years ago, we has a dentist who, for treatments that would otherwise need an injection, clipped something to your nostril and you went off on a trip! I recall lying there thinking how incredibly blue the sky was and if there was pain, it was Oh, that hurt nicely. I have no idea what it was and we moved abroad shortly after, but it was great!
