2002 Focus Instrument Panel Issue?

hi all a friend has a 2002 ford focus 1.8 petrol and recently the rev counter,speedo,temp,fuel..all stopped working although the backlight is still on...but after driving for 20-30 mins of driving stop car restart all working again...but after each time they start the trip mileage is back to zero???

I had this prob. Caused by water getting through the windscreen seal and effecting whatever controls the instruments. Changing the seal solved it. Cant remember what the cost was.
Pal had a similar problem. After many so-called experts had failed to cure the problem, we found a battery cable was high resistance in it's connector at the battery. We found this after he burnt his hand on it! New connector fitted, and all was well. We were later told there had been a batch of suspect cables supplied to Ford. Can't fathom why this should manifest itself at the instrument cluster, but it did.
