Why does hot water freeze faster than cold?

Are you sure it does? We tried this one a while ago and found that the cold water froze at the same rate....but we degassed the cold and hot water....boiling water removes dissolved gas, which will raise the freezing point, this may explain the effect. But I've never seen it demonstrated. If you've got it to work I'd be interested to hear the details...

I know this is a super old post but I once saw this as a science experiment on tv. The hot water froze faster because the molecules are moving fast and bumping around whereas cold water molecules just kind of float along. This movement allows the water to freeze through faster, supposedly.
