I have two of these, a cheapo and a De Longhi which cost about £50 three or four years ago. When pouring hot water into a mug both dribble water from the spout which misses the cup entirely and makes quite a mess. Why does it do this and does anyone know a kettle that does not drip?

We've got a Tesco, one cost about a tenner 3-4 years ago and we've never had any problems with it except when I've over filled it.
They very often do this in hard water areas when you get a tiny amount of deposit under the pouring lip. Try to keep this clean...and you can stop dribbles by putting the TINIEST amount of a smear of grease on the underside of the lip...right on the edge (old laboratory trick!).
mine is a compact dualit and it doesn't drip
Tesco cheapie jug doesn't drip.
