I have a cat who wont use litter tray she goes next to it. have tried new litter tray and new litter am at wits end

Try without the litter; just a clean dry plastic tray. Plastic is warm for their feet

It may be 'where' you have put the litter tray that has caused this. If it is too near her food etc etc

my cat will wee in his tray several times but will only poo once - so I have to be quick removing any poo! I believe they use the same area as yours is doing because the area has their scent so is it possible for you to wipe up a drop of her wee on a tissue and put in amongst the litter to scent the litter for her?

Don't clean the area that she is using at the moment with cleaning products containing ammonia as again I believe that confuses them as there is ammonia in urine - something like that anyway. In the meantime get a pack of disposable puppy training pads and put that down where she's going at the moment to help with the cleaning. Good luck.

Is she a kitten or an older cat that is used to going outside maybe?

OK, next time she poos or wees next to her tray, place some of the poo or wee inside the tray, or better still onto the litter surface, this will create her scent already inside the tray, so she will think that is where she went to the loo last. Good luck ! Perseverance and patience and she will get the message.

One of my old girls just had a lousy sense of direction. Put lots of newspaper down under and around the tray - should catch all mishaps.

So did one of mine. She always got in the tray but them aimed her bottom over the edge on to the floor! Newspaper surround will help.
