I recently bought this interesting item and was wondering if it is a model of a specific brand of bike, or just a representation of a generic bike. Someone mentioned a triumph, and another person suggested a soft tail Harley. Any ideas?

My big book of bikes which has pictures of most of the bikes ever made and the closest thing is the Indian in the link above. However it has girder forks so I think your model is an archetypal impression of the post war era. I couldn't find any V twins with left hand exhausts.
Definitely a generic. I have one too that was my late DH's
that's a norton manx or dominator

Thanks, people. I have copied, pasted, and printed all your answers and will take them to the bar in about 20 mins from now. The discussion, fueled by your answers, will continue on...Grown men discussing a toy:) Cheers to you all.
Manx was a single cylinder, dominator was a parallel twin. The model is either a sidevalve V twin or a in line vertical twin like a sunbeam S5

I'm not a motor cycle enthusiast, but I like the looks of that one. How much would that be worth nowadays?
A few quid, stewey. When I was at secondary school our metalwork teacher used to have a Sunbeam bike the same as the one in the pic he also had a Vincent square four ( very rare bike ).
Tony, the Vincent square 4 was I believe a special made from an Ariel square 4 engine in a Vincent frame.
Stewey, several grand might get you a decent one, but a dissincentive is the unreliable shaft drive worm gear which wears rapidly :o(
Yes jomifl, I remember something about it ( the Vincent ) having an Ariel engine now you mention it.
