On a journey in Brighton yesterday, a bus was blocking a crossroads and holding up the traffic.
The taxi driver amazed me by switching off the meter until we could get going again.
I don't normally tip the driver's and the don't seem to expect a tip.....but on this occasion I gladly tipped him.
Had that happen a few times with London cabbies. But they don't restart the meter, because that automatically registers a new hiring and will therefore add the basic starting charge; the one hiring would count as two and the total would be more than for leaving the meter running.
