Adroit (skilful) - 'or' (other ranks; soldiers, up, in) 'adit' (passage to a mine)
adit = passage or= soldiers (reversed)

adit = passage
or = soldiers (other ranks)
ad(ro)it = skilful
OR = Other ranks or soldiers. Adit is an opening or passage
