Patio Pear Tree

Just purchased a Patio Pear Tree which is very small at the moment,it is in its own small pot,when is it safe .to replant it into a larger pot and put it outside on the patio?Came from Holland with no planting instructions.

Your pear tree should be fully hardy for outdoors but if you have had it inside a while, i would try to aclimatise it to its new possition gently, ie if a heavy frost is forcast give it shelter for the first couple of nights, just to be on the safe side as you dont know if its been hanging around in a wam warehouse.


As long as its not frosty, I would waste no time in getting it into a larger tub 2-4 inches bigger than the last, with plenty of crocks in the bottom for good drainage. gently tease out the roots if they have been spireling round the old pot and add a soil based compost avoiding air pockets,water in well and add some slow reliese granular fertiliser after a couple of weeks.
