I was thinking about the thread about school children using the word "gay" so mean ... a bit lame.

Perhaps for the population as a whole, rather than children, the answer lies not in banning words, but in education.

If we all integrated a bit more, then perhaps we would develop a different mental association with the word. It could come to mean exciting, vibrant, colourful, fun. In fact, just what it used to mean.

So one of our Friday night routes goes ...

Cross the road near the big wheel, and ...

Drinks in Legends ... mostly gay men, but anyone welcome, has a hotel and night club.

Drinks in The A Bar ... mixed gay, but anyone welcome, has its own sauna. Haven't used the sauna.

Drinks in Club Revenge ... mostly lesbian, but anyone welcome. Good place to go back to at the end of the night.

Then, we head off back into The Lanes for food and more drinks.

So I was just thinking ...

Perhaps towns should be more conscious of promoting a sort of "gay trail" of bars where anyone can go, have a drink, enjoy the gay vibe, and then move on.

Before long, a lot of people would start to see that a lot of the fun is happening in the gay bars, where they really know how to party.

A little education can go a long way.

"Drinks in Club Revenge....good place to go back to at the end of the night" After going to the other places, the only place I`d want to go back to at the end of the night is my bed.

... or the casino!

For a minute there JJ I thought you were inviting us all to Brighton to hang out in gay clubs.

There are worse ways to spend a Friday night.
I wouldn't disagree with that :)
JJ, I know what you mean, straights are so dull and boring, they just don't know how to have FUN....or does that sound just a bit patronising or gender orientationist? Can you get gay vibes online or are they only available in 'specialist' shops

No, I don't think it's patronising, because there's a lot of truth in it.

But I'm not sure why it is.

Gay bars and clubs just have this buzzing, vibrant atmosphere.

Maybe it's because gay guys are allowed to enjoy pink neon lights.

Maybe it's the sense of freedom that was enjoyed by the heterosexual community in the 1960s.

Or maybe it's just ...

Girls have the most fun with girls. Maybe guys have the most fun with guys. So gay bars are always going to be a lot of fun.

I don't know. I can't put my finger on it. But I'm glad that there are are so many gay bars here, because Friday nights are just rocking.

While I wouldn't want to be seen as trying to put a damper on your evening, I hope in some of those places you take a soft drink. :-)

I'm concerned about that too, JJ.
Wouldn't want you being taken advantage of when you return to Club Revenge at the end of the evening......
Why would anyone straight want to visit a gay bar???
Question Author
