Bloody pretentious little things and such a small mouthful. You can't beat a nice slice of fruitcake, or perhaps cherry and coconut cake perhaps. For a real treat, I like a big thick slice seed cake, which nobody seems to make these days.
Rich fruit cake or date and walnut loaf for me, you can keep the sugary cupcakes :)
If you make decent cupcakes with a nice flavour topping (as I do!) they can be really lovely.... shop bought ones are awful though.
I remember my dad used to buy (as a great treat) a frosted walnut cake from Fullers - they were very sweet, but delicious.
Bara brith or any fruit bread for me thank you, shall I pour the tea?
Thanks boxy...I shall have a look in Tesco this morning. But what I meant by seed cake is a plain madeira, with carraway seeds added.
T'internet says they have caraway seed cake in Waitrose too. I know the one you mean.
Ah Waitrose ! I'm afraid that while the glorious Peoples Republic of Wales is marvelous in almost every department, its a Waitrose desert. My nearest ones would be at least 40 miles away. But I have printed off the following recipe from that nice man Mr Slater :::

Its been a while since I was abaking but I am going to give it a go today...I shall give a report on the outcome !
