Been to Haworth in Yorkshire today and everyone was dressed in black lace and men in black top hats with goggles on their heads.
It was quite a big celebration with Scottish bands and vintage cars.
I was told it was to celebrate Steam Punk.
I have never heard of this before and wondered if anyone on AB has.

I've read quite a bit of Steampunk literature.....it can be very inventive.

Oh gawd, I take it she went out then, rusty. Two words for you, Tumble Drier !.

The Goth scene started in earnest in the 1980's as a spin off from the New Romantics.
I live in Whitby which is home to two Goth weekends each year - this October it was estimated 5,000-7,000 of them descended on the town.
There are numerous sub branches of the Goth culture, including Victoriana Goths, Fetish Goths and Steam Punk Goths.
Apart from the clothing, each group prefers distinctly different types of music
Me likey Steam Punk Sci-Fi. Steven Hunt, The Court of the Air; Gibson/Sterling, The Difference Engine; Kevin Anderson Clockwork Angels and a host of others, even Neil Stephenson, The Diamond Age ( a really brilliant novel, but nor quite steampunk). Even the chronicles of Space Captain Smith, by Toby Frost, which is a kind of send-up of Steampunk.

The gear is quite groovy too,but I cannot wear - would look more like Scrooge than some intrepid victorian explorer :)
