Bloody hell Rowen, K.F.? are you looking for a new engine, Brakes, Clutch, they will try sell you anything but the right thing, check your local Yellow Pages for A/C Specialists.
I would suggest that your normal garage would be your best bet, particularly if you look after them by, e.g. slipping the owner / chief mechanic a bottle of something tasty from time to time.
If you go to kwik fit or any other so called specialist tyre/ exhaust / suspension rip off merchants don't expect any favours!
trawl through your local paper, they sometimes have prices listed.
What area are you in Rowen?
Not many local garages do air A/C,

If you use kwik fit they will not charge you anything for servicing your A/C service if they do not make it significantly colder, at the same time they will probably tell you what is wrong with it and where you could get it repaired.

As TWR said........

Make sure you ignore any suggestions about other jobs that need doing!

While I agree with toureman that not many local garages do A/C, I still think I'd still start with my friendly neighbourhood garage - if only to get his recommendation as to where to go. I had mine done a couple of years ago by a mobile "man with a van" who did the job here at home.
We used a mobile service, he only did air on work so was quite specialised, google for your area. Very convenient as they come to you.
I've just had mine done at my local garage along with my annual service. They charged me £32.50 for A/C service and regas. It's running much colder now. They reckon you should have it done every two years.
A.T.S do them.
Hi clickmechanic.com here, we regularly service air cons and have the added benefit that the mechanic comes to your home. Depending on the car and work to be done you could try to get an (approved) quote for this work here through our system: www.clickmechanic.com/repairs-and-services
