Science In The Bible
146 Answers
A day or two back a contributor here said….
“It's [the Bible's] contents are scientifically sound on matters that human researchers discovered only at a later date.”
…. but he declined to elaborate.
I know the bible fairly well, but I can’t think what he might be referring to. Does anyone have any idea?
Or perhaps he would like to explain?

Let's try and simplify this aspect. Guesses, hypotheses, theories, facts or theorems: Let's bundle them all into one and call them all "ideas". Now each idea stands or falls by set criteria - the evidence, idependent testing and practicability of it over time. This means it's a group effort. You don't have to call it science if you don't like it - just settle for common sense. Leave scientists to rank these ideas in order from guess to fact or theorem as regards reliability.
Unfortunately I think religionists have a phobia about this rational approach because they think it threatens their belief-system. This is not necessarily so for all but for (just) me it does reinforce my atheism.

Naomi,
Eureka (lol). I think between us we now have an idea of what your original quotation means or rather what the person was arguing and doing so as wrong-headedly as some contributors.
The contributions by chrisgel and birdie identified, via reference, false claims about the bible telling us about radio astronomy, a spherical earth and television.
Then came vetuste-ennemi with the bible referring to gravity and even the law of entropy.
So, in short it's all JUST A REPEAT OF THE NOSTREDAMUS TRICK!
With all todays knowledge you go back to an old document and "find" many significant events apparently predicted. Easy when you know what you seek and use poetic license. It's a technique which is cleverer (or dumber, depending on who you are trying to convince, yourself or others ) than simple wisdom thro' hindsight.
Make sense of your original quotation maybe?

Khandro, oh dear. Your argument is floundering again. Now let’s see. First you think I ‘ought to leave it alone’ – and ‘God’ knows what that means - then I’m silly - and then I’m very silly – and all in one thread. Anyone listening to you could be forgiven for thinking I’m in danger of succumbing to a severe inferiority complex. Sensibly, few appear to listen. Just as well I have a sense of humour. ;o)
SIQ, indeed. Wonky hindsight is a useful tool.

(Proverbs 8:27) When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he decreed a circle upon the face of the watery deep,
(Job 26:10) He has described a circle upon the face of the waters, To where light ends in darkness.
(Isaiah 40:22) There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth, the dwellers in which are as grasshoppers, the One who is stretching out the heavens just as a fine gauze, who spreads them out like a tent in which to dwell,6 The wind is going to the south, and it is circling around to the north. Round and round it is continually circling, and right back to its circling s the wind is returning.
contents are scientifically //The wind
Ecclesiastes 1. 6 The wind is going to the south, and it is circling around to the north. Round and round it is continually circling , and right back to its circlings the wind is returning.
7 All the winter torrents are going forth to the sea, yet the sea itself is not full. To the place where the winter torrents are going forth, there they are returning so as to go forth.
