I know someone who needed to go on to medication after a major traumatic experience which affected his emotions.

I'm not able to pry but can anyone give an idea of what the medical terms or illnesses could be. I know he's not autistic and does not have Asperger's syndrome. Could I be wrong?

depression? Post traumatic stress disorder?
^^ what bednobs says most likely. Any more details?
Agree with the others. I don't think you can develop Asperger's or autism, it's something you are born with and not classed as a mental illness as such.

Thanks Prudie - that helps a lot.

Pixie & Bednobs, he's a young boy in his teens but he seemed to cry easily. I'm not sure if it was because he developed later (emotionally) or if it was a sign of things to come. Now, he seems to be in his own world (trauma caused by a close death) and he giggles a lot (possibly due to his medication). Sorry I don't have much more info but ask me and if I have the answer, I'll try to help.
Do you know the medication? I'm not sure about the giggling. Is it possible that he already had some condition and this has triggered it?
//I'm not able to pry //

The usual turn of phrase is "I am not one to pry, but..."

The fun part is that the full sentence becomes self contradictory, it's as if you're saying "I'm not normally a nosey kind of person but, just this once, I am trying to find out what illness my friend has."

Meanwhile, taken too literally, the meaning of "I'm not able to pry" would be that you are physically prevented from finding out (not a member of the family, for instance) or legally or ethically forbidden from breaching the person's medical confidentiality (not a health service professional).

LOL Hypognosis - it's the 2nd option you mentioned.

Pixie - I don't know the medication unfortunately, sorry.
