For anyone interested there is a cryptic tribute to Araucaria in the Guardian. Lovely crossword but a bit sad all the same.thanks

You can download and print the crossword from the Guardian website. It's not really by Brendan. I'm reliably informed that it was compiled by the other 3 Johns who, along with Araucaria, were "Biggles".
Ah, one of those other Johns is Paul. Why were they called Biggles?
"Biggles" the book was the book of W E Johns so the "Johns" are now Biggles

I bought the paper and had a look at the cryptic. My limitations were cruelly exposed. The Beano cryptic is more my level.
