Do people have any opinions regarding the best kindle with a backlight?
Also,are books I have on my current kindle easy to transfer. If so, how?

you just need to go on your amazon account and download your current books from the cloud. I don't know about the best one because i only have one with a backlight

I started with a kindle app on my tablet. When I got a kindle paper white a few moths ago,books on my tablet were transferred automatically when I set it up the first time...took all of a minute or less.
