I was arrested and placed on police bail pending further investigation. After approx 5mths, when I appeared at the station to answer bail, I was informed that I had been nfa. They didnt give me any written confirmation of this. Six weeks later I was picked up from my home address....not re arrested, because despite there being no new evidence, they had decided to issue me a caution. It all seems a little unfair and underhanded....are they able to do this?

Yes. Do you have any complaint? If you accepted the caution that is an end of the matter. No prosecution will follow, though the caution is on record . What else would you have the police do in your case?

They can only "issue" a caution if you say you will accept
- see above

It is possible that you accepted somehting (the caution) without really knowing what you were saying yes t0.
Reading between the lines it looks like the DPP have decided not to take any further action, but the police think you merit a caution.
Did you admit the offence/s in full Leanne?. To qualify for a police caution the accused must admit the offences in full and those admissions must be reliable. Although not unheard of, 5 months seems a long time to be on bail if an accused has made admissions.

I admitted to a lesser offence than that which I was accused of. When no evidence could be found I was nfa'd. The earlier admission of a more minor was then cautioned. I did accept the caution...i didn't realise you had a choice. I ask because two people who were arrested at the same time are still on bail 11mths later with no charges brought and it seems, a lack of evidence.
It is why Fred and his cohorts are there Leanne
they can give you advice in your best interests

I think you are stuck with the caution about the lesser offence.

we often look back and think - blimey if I had known that at the time I wouldve....[done something completely different]
