Stuck on the last 2 - 11 ac (7) a senior grade predecessor of 8 (I have Obadiah) His own predecessor was blown away E?I?E?S - cannot figure this out at all. If it is Obadiah of the old testament the only predecessor I can find is Ezekiel and this does not fit at all 22 down (5) The strong rebirth of some tumultuous cloud/Instince with fire and N?T?E Can anyone assist and could they also confirm that I am correct with 13 across for which I have Oaths (Murray thought they were the flash-nots of speech) -

22d Nitre ?
11 Eliseus [Elisha]?

Thank you very much indeed Shoota and Mamyalynne - I would never have arrived at either of those answers
Ten thousand fadom deep, and to this hour
Down had been falling, had not by ill chance
The strong rebuff of som tumultuous cloud
Instinct with Fire and Nitre hurried him
As many miles aloft: that furie stay'd,
Quencht in a Boggie SYRTIS, neither Sea,
Nor good dry Land: nigh founderd on he fares,
Treading the crude consistence, half on foot,
Half flying; behoves him now both Oare and Saile

I read it in the 1950's at school and found it very heavy going - certainly have no memory of any of the lines - unlike Shakespeare which I loved. Did I get the right answer to 13 across?
Sorry mra I can't assist with 13a.
Question Author
Never mind I will just go with oaths - makes more sense than the only alternative I could get from the letters. Thanks again for all your help
