One of the creatures shown was a type of reptile that lives in arid areas that when it needs to escape the dangers of predators, it curls up into a wheel shape and launches itself down sand dunes. The speed it reaches is incredible....but for the life of me, I can't remember what it is or where it was!
Well Mr Bok, I, too, saw on an interesting documentary on TV a while ago disputing the fact that only man had made the unique invention of the wheel (along with the discovery of fire, electricity, religion and manners) and that some rare breed of simian in a dark remoteness had raced up the evolutionary slippery slope and beated us to it. Or perhaps I was drunk and imagined it...
I remember seeing a TV prog ages ago (probably Horizon) that had electron microscope pictures of a microbe that had a corkscrew shaped tail, which it turned to move. You could clearly see that the tail was fixed to the centre of a disc, which was located at the end of the body and turned for no apparent reason. It was a wheel of sorts. No, it wasn't April 1st!!
