I know it must be disappointing when our flight is delayed or cancelled, but honestly there was a chap actually crying on the news earlier because he couldn't have his holiday, and now I've just found this on the BBC website

1523: Tom Flatman has given up on a weekend trip to Dublin after waiting at Gatwick for seven hours. He described would-be passengers as "angry and upset, crying and shouting".

For goodness sake. Talk about hysterical!

late brother was an assistant air traffic controller, had no knowledge of passengers problems.

The ATC are doing a very stressful job

Passengers are not their rep, but are the responsibilty of the airlines.
passengers are not their rep? dear lord, responsibility.

would he rather be safe, or sorry?
Depends really, some of those people were stuck on the tarmac for 4 hours, I'd be fitting it too, some may have saved for a couple of years for their holiday, they may have a wedding/baptism etc to go to. What if someone on that plane had to get home to say their last goodbyes to a loved one, I' sure they'd be very, very upset.
The only thing they can't really complain about are the airlines as it was out of their control.

Exactly. They're still alive for goodness sake!

Rocky, I understand it could be upsetting but what is the point of being hysterical? It doesn't solve anything, and is certainly no example to children there either. A bit of dignity and self restraint needed i think.
sabotage methinks, but quiet is lovely ;)
No emotion solves anything but we're only human and respond to circumstances, some respond better than others.
Well it is quite disappointing when your trip goes t1ts up. Especially when NATS don`t have contingency plans for this sort of thing.
I cry when I'm frustrated. Being stuck on the tarmac for 4 hours would probably make me cry.
I couldn't do it Ummmm, I'm nervous enough without that crap so they'd have to get me off.
if my much anticipated, planned ans saved up for holiday was off, i would cry, shout and be angry and upset i guess
Same Rocky. I'm fine until they start boarding the plane then I get really really nervous. Sitting there for 4 hours would turn me into a wreck.
Like I said - I'd rather be safe than sorry.
a weekend trip to Dublin,,,,,,,,,,,,hardly a disaster .
Absolutely Boxy, doesn't stop people being upset though.
It`s not really a safe rather than sorry issue. They just can`t get the aircraft away because of a glitch. Nobody is going to say, "S@d it, let`s take off anyway" and it comes down to the same old story. They can`t catch up because of lack of runway space which means loads of flights have to be cancelled.
I've been to Dublin..once, and will say I'll never go again. Maybe the guy should think his self lucky that he was spared the ordeal.
