Not being rude.... For a change.

I have a bag of frozen scallops in my freezer - they are within the use-by date, and the bag is fully sealed, but it has 'blown up', as in full of air, I guess.
They look ok. If they smell ok, do you think they'll be safe to consume?

I always trust my nose. You will need to defrost - smell - then either cook or chuck!

Chuck, as in vomit?!!
LOVE scallops, can I come round? Assuming they are safe to cook :-)
If they pong a bit chuck them out before you're chucking up.
chuck, as in put in bin

i would defrost and smell them, then deal accordingly
Just my opinion.

Shellfish can be very problematic. It is possible that the scallops have started to 'go-off' and they are exuding a gas which is causing their sealed bag to become filled with it.

Having said what I have; if they look and smell reasonable and you cook them at a high temperature I would think they should be edible without any side effects.

if the bag is in fact air-tight, and it is now "blown up" I would get rid of it. A gaseous by-product would indicate some type of decomposition, probably bacterial.
Definately chuck in my opinion., dont hesitate!
I wouldn't chance it, if they are in date take them back still frozen when you next go shopping, x
I wouldn't eat them for the reasons Alston and stewey state.
Too risky with scallops Salla, sorry. best get rid, your health is more important. I would consider the bag to have ' blown ' meaning something inside it has 'gone off ' .
I am all for saving money and have eaten out-of-date food all my life. I am still here to tell the tale but if the bag has blown up then something inside has gone off. If you die we would all miss you so we are all telling you not to take the risk. You will have to chuck it away this time!
Bin it, salla, not worth the risk :-(
If they were frozen when you bought them and you have kept them at the recommended temperature then I would return them to the shop and get my money back.

Scallops duly chucked.....

...... in the bin. :-)
They are "not all that" anyway. I cooked us some last week. Mussels are far better.
No, grasscarp means chuck in bin, not chuck as in vomit. If it smells okay when defrosted it should be fine to eat.

You do not have our permission to die from bad food yet. We would all miss you.
