Wouldn't surprise me either, trt, if the police are as bad as the criminals but "poachers turned gamekeepers" comes to mind. Certainly a good many of our detectives and police would have made good criminals.

but ours didn't, and we need them as much as they need us. After all you don't call the local news agent when you get burgled, you call the police.

the only reason for calling the police when you're burgled is to get a list of the things that have been stolen for your insurers. The're never going to catch anyone or get anything back. You might just as well call the newsagent. I don't know why the insurers don't provide their own list-makers.

Perhaps if some of our anti-police brigade were to see how other police forces operate, they would be more pleased with the British police who are admired the world over (except in the UK that is).

jno - when I was burgled they also finger printed the house and advised on extra security measures.

when we were burgled they sent a PC who looked about 12, though two Sweeney types showed up the next day. They did say that almost the whole street had been done, Christmas time and all that, that didn't make me feel any better. had i found out who it was would have sent in some of my heavy set male friends. The police did say they believed it was the work of youths looking for money for drugs, and for items to sell quickly, not sure how they got in the TV or how no one noticed.

The lad that burgled me was caught and sentenced to 4.5 years (for other burglaries as well)
