I am having a lot of trouble opening Internet Explorer, particularly after 'critical updates have been installed. I have restored to a previous date and it opens but as soon as the updates are installed it doesnt work and I cant uninstall it.
It does not appear on the programme lists in control panel as I would like to uninstall it then after the updates, download a later version. It sont let me install a later version as it says one is already installed.
Where is it?
Anyone with any ideas would be gratefully received as its doing my head in.....

Try installing a different browser, such as Firefox or Chrome.

Internet Explorer isn't the best, and I stopped using it years ago.
Microsoft released IE11 on 12.11.2013 as part of their usual updates.
If you were keeping your PC up to date you should have been able to download it on that date.
We do not use any other Browser as IE is good, in fact we have un-installed Firefox as we have no need for it, and it's over rated.
I don't know what Windows Operating System you have or what edition you have of Internet Explorer.

It's purely my guess that IE is trying to update to No.11 and your system does not like it. You can check the edition of your current Browser by Clicking Internet Explorer > Help > About IE.

Furthermore, you Will find IE in your Control Panel's list of programmes.
Open the list of installed programmes and, towards the top left hand side of page, click 'View installed updates'. Search down the list of revealed up-dates and you will locate IE which can then be uninstalled....and IE will revert to it's previous edition.

Incidentally, I agree with Hopkirk..."Internet Explorer isn't the best". So, if you wish to avoid trying another Browser, it's worth trying the steps I have suggested.
Allan, I had problems once after downloading a set of MS updates and cured it by restoring to an earlier date and then, the next time they were offered, downloading and installing the updates one at a time instead of letting the comp install them all at once and it's been OK ever since.
Why bother?

If it gives all that hassle, walk away.

i find chrome better and much quicker
What you could try is a repair on your installed updates before installing IE11. You can access this through Troubleshooting and opening Fix problems with Windows Updates and following the prompts . Check the version of IE at the dropdown box in the top RHD cog and about internet explorer . IE 11 is the best and fastest browser at present as well as the most secure. Remember IE11 is an update and must be uninstalled from the installed updates in All Programs and Features .
