I have known people who have really struggled health-wise after giving up cigarettes.

I can't offer an explanation but I think you're doing amazingly well to have stuck it out. Maybe you should see your GP for an MOT, see if they have any suggestions?

Well done,scorpio17. MrPW52 gave up about the same time as you, and has put on weight and had mouth ulcers from chewing gum, but like you, he's determined to keep at it.At least you have lost weight, so that's great. Please don't give in.
A thorough detox which you are presently undergoing ( and good on you for sticking with such misery bc it's not easy) can take anything up to about 6 months, but you should be over the very worst by now and hopefully will start to feel better soon.Stick with it:)
Well done for sticking to a regime which must have been a bit of a culture shock, and for the weight loss. I also started a new gym routine in January, working out or swimming 2 or 3 times a week. I do eat healthily anyway (most of the time) and just wish I could say I felt brimming with health. The truth is that I feel tried much of the time and I've come to the conclusion many of us under-estimate the psychological & physical effects of starting a rigorous routine just as the coldest, greyest and most depressing time of the year is kicking in. Also, the body is probabl rebelling and taking a little time to get used to the change. Do stick with it. I'm sure you're on the right track, and when that Spring sunshine starts to warm our faces again, we'll probably all feel much better.
Vitamin C supplements really help keep your immune system healthy

I did more or less the same as you but it took two years to get really fit! 3 years after starting I now swim at least 1 mile three times a week.

Be carefull and stick to it 2 or 3 times a week can soon slip down to 1 or 2 times a week.

I've been 'clean' for 3 and a half years.I vomitted gunge every morning for a few months but it didnt abate for about 6 months.Far from making me want to take the fags up again - I now know what it does to your lungs and body - its poison which my body was getting rid off.I would never smoke again. My immune system was also affected - like you.

You are doing so well - please stick at it - because along with your healthier diet and stopping smoking you will feel like a new person.

Nox was right you are giving your body a thorough detox and its all the toxins which are coming out.

Good Luck:)

well done scorpio, keep it up you're doing great, dont forget to have a bit of a treat regarding food on special occasions, like birthdays or holidays. when you reach your desird weight treat yourfelf to a gorgous dress or something. you probably look better already, have you noticed that you dont breath so heavily after walking up a hill ect. your breath, hair and clothes will be smelling much nicer without all the cig smoke, and your skin wont be so dry. good luck
