Virus Or Malware On Nexus 7?

Over the last few days, I've had randomly appearing message boxes that say something like "download X piece of software from Y.com" naming various sites. They're not pop up adverts.

Some boxes offer an ok or cancel option, while one or two just sit there and I have to shut down and reopen the tablet to get rid of them. It's bloody annoying and intrusive. I've tried downloading the free version of Malwarebytes directly to the Nexus and just get a "can't open file" message.

Obviously I'm running Chrome - on lappy and phone as well as the Nexus, and it doesn't happen other than on the tablet - so does anyone know what's causing this and how do I get rid of it?

I've been getting those also...or at least last night I was. They've only been on AB though,and hitting the back button will get rid...until the next one.

Ah, thanks Pasta - I also thought it was only on AB, but wasn't sure.

I'm going to copy this over into the Ed's blog and we'll see what happens.

I think I saw a thread earlier in the week posted from someone who was getting warnings that AB was not safe.

No.…the poster was not as well known as mrs_overhaul.....but it lots are having odd problems on here.

I just downloaded and ran Malwarebytes. All clear...nothing found.

To night on AB I have had warnings ......security certificates for this site are not trust worthy leaving your computer open to risks?????????
