Hi
does anyone out there suffer from dry/sore/itchy eyes. mine have been like this for the past year. they constantly run and make the skin under my eyes swollen and dark. I have had numerous solutions for putting in my eyes, plus eyes tested at the opticions and also at eye casualty.

nothing seems to work even tried cucumber and wet flannels.

I do not work or sit in front of computers all day, so just wondered if anyone has any suggestions?

thanks Jay

Here's a list (from the NHS website) of the solutions that doctors might try:

(Is there anything there which hasn't been tried yet? If so, perhaps you might suggest it to your doctor).

However this 'self-help' page might be more relevant (if only because it gives you a good excuse for buying that nice big whole salmon that you fancied getting in for Christmas!):

Could it be some kind of allergy or caused by an irritant?

Have you had any tests like blood tests done to test for anything and do you have any other health conditions?

When your eyes were checked, do you know if they checked the glands in case any were blocked?
Have you tried a pad soaked in fresh milk and pressed on the sore eye?

thanks for all your comments, it sounds if a lot of you are suffering the same symptons as me.

I have tried Viscotears and lacri-lube these are available over the counter

I have tried Optrex `Actimist quite good as you spray it on closed eyes. but this is expensive but can last up to 6 months after its been opened costs about £15.00

my doctor has now given me Hylo-Forte so will see how this works.
Cold used tea bags can sometimes be quite soothing.
I use Systane which works for me. Available at the opticians.
I think Eve has a point, do you have any allergies. I am allergic to cat fleas, I can tell within minutes of going into a house with a cat that it has fleas as my eyes itch and water. I'm not saying that the cause of your problem is cat fleas but it could be an allergic response to something like biological washing powder or any number of everyday substances that may have changed their formulation even if you haven't started using a new product.
Agree with Diamond1409 - with regard to VISCO TEARS. I was prescribed them about 12 months ago, for daily use. They certainly were a huge help, I'm now only using them say once a week. Depending on your NHS Region / Age you can get them on prescription. Or over the Counter from leading chemists.
