Ev 1101 Prevention By Charybdis

In binary this is only EV 13! Could this be the most thematically packed puzzle ever? Or this week, anyway? Lots to keep track of, and I must say I sort of stopped paying attention to the extra letters in clues as they did not seem to matter for the final grid fill, so I may be missing some extra dimension of the theme. Quite a workout and an excellent puzzle.

I solve a lot of puzzles, but this is safely my puzzle of the year. Has there ever been more thematic information packed into a grid? Some great clues, and a wonderful treatment of the theme. Seeing the rather apt positioning of the highlighted saying was a great penny drop moment.

Congratulations to Charybdis, and it's great to see the EV attracting such quality puzzles these days. In the past, the puzzles have too often been of the "here's a quote, now just highlight a small amount of randomly placed items" type. This, and other recent puzzles such as Find and Replace by Poat, or the MC one by Oxymoron, have knocked other puzzles in the week they have appeared into a tin hat.

I finally completed this, thanks to jim360 for a few hints to get me going. It was hard work but well worth the effort. The final (longest) variety had me stumped for a while!
