This woman didn't. Why criticise her for complaining and not being embarrassed to initiate a prosecution ? Incidentally, I haven't noticed Tesco being embarrassed to prosecute a shoplifter over £30; the sum doesn't matter. Of course, these women may well have been confident that the complainant would never start a prosecution, and so they went on to yet greater expenditure, but that they were disappointed can hardly be held against the complainant
Anneasquith, I'm afraid I've had to tighten my belt. The butler and his wife, the cook, are long gone, as are the gardeners. Mrs Danvers, the housekeeper, is heavily burdened. I'm not altogether sure she's up to all the double digging in the vegetable garden. But it would be a shame to let her go. I can't see her getting another job at her age.
