I have just replaced an under- unit strip light (filament had gone in old one).
The new one seems to stay on for about 10 minutes , then go off! After a short rest I switch on and away we go again for a further 10 mins. Is the light filament overheating [due to inferior quality] or is the wiring the cause?

You say "fluorescent"...then you mention "filament". Fluorescent strip lights don't have filaments.

They are under unit strip lights--- One is clear and the filament can be seen unbroken---the other (which is causing the probem), is pearl or cloudy--- [neither uses a starter]---Since my last post I have left the power on and it seems to stay on for 8 minutes--go off--cool down and come back on after a further 7/8 minutes!! Does this help??
their not fluorescent they are tungsten light bulbs as gingejbee says,
sounds like you need a new fitting as the "tubes" are not making proper contact at either end
Question Author
Possibly --but why is it lighting up for a period of time and then going off ad back on again every 10 minutes? If the contacts at each end were faulty I would thought it wouldn't light up at all. [I don't know]
Heat and expansion
Similar to those found in shaver lights, Kenny. Prone to bad connections and duff tubes.
Try these fluorescents.................
