So here we are in AD2013, the 2013th year since Jesus was born.

Now tomorrow is His birthday, so why won't it be 2014 for another week?

Good research Mamy but if that were the reason for the discrepancy then wouldn't Christmas Day have been on January 1st BEFORE the calendar change?
Question Author
Pixie - no , there wasn't a year 0. I was very careful to say earlier that AD1 was defined as being from the birth of Christ until His first birthday.

And another thing, what about Tony Blair and his lot foisting the Millennium Celebrations on us a whole year early?

I'm getting a little worried that this thread might come to the attention of some Civil Service type who will decide to correct the discrepancy and then you poor souls who still work will be deprived of a Bank Holiday.
good point, balders.

Took me ages to convince my thick pals about that one. Used the birth analogy but some still didn't understand.

Absolutely Baldric. The first millennium (thousand years) was from year 1 to year 1000, and the second one from 1001 to 2000, so the third millennium began in 2001.
