I have always been told that all new babies were born with blue eyes which changed ( or not ) after about six weeks.
My grandson now informs me that the new baby has brown eyes, so have I always thought wrong?

Most are, well, if they're Caucasian anyway. If I remember rightly it's something to do with the lack of light in the womb and 'something' not being able to develop till their born for several weeks. Dontcha love it when I go all scientifficy? LOL

My daughter was born with brown eyes
Most of mine were born with brown eyes, just one with blue (which are still blue).
Mine were born with blue then they turned green.

Thank you very much. Definitely an old wives tale then.
They are usually born with blue (lack of pigment) and turn brown within about 6 weeks if they're going to, although i know one who's eyes turned brown at a year old.
All my sons were born with blue eyes. One of them turned to a different shade of blue, others to shades of brown. I'm told that I and my elder brother did the same, but my younger brother was born with brown eyes.
My daughter was born with deep violet eyes, long curly black hair and she was jaundiced. I had some funny looks from folk. Her eyes changed to blue, her hair eventually dropped out and regret blond and she lost the jaundiced look. A totally different looking child.
My son was born with blue eyes six months ago, still blue.

It seems that they will stay blue now viv. Many congratulations on the birth of your son. I hope that you are really enjoying him
I won't get to see my ggc until Feb next year.
For those of you who took an interest, all is well now and they will leave hospital today. I have seen e-mail pictures and baby is absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you leahbee, he wasn't planned and I'm a lateish Mum (38), but it's wonderful being a Mum and he fascinates me every day. Watching his little face over Christmas with the twinkling lights and the tree was magical.

Glad all is well with your new arrival, bet you can't wait for Feb xx
